An Afternoon With My Granddaughter

LEAD ME THROUGH YOUR GARDEN

Lead me through your garden,
Show me all the things that grow.
Point out every flower,
Name each blossom as we go.
Show me hummingbees aplenty,
Watch the flutterbys take flight.
Hear the rockingbirds in concert,
Keep the bunnikins in sight.
Point out every precious weedling,
Sprinkle water on the drive.
Show me all the squirming worms that
You have vowed to keep alive.
Lead me happily past veggies
That you’ll never ever eat,
Let me swing under your maple,
Kicking mulch with my bare feet.
Dance with me in sunshine,
Stomp the puddles in the rain.
Lead me through your garden,
Where I’m ever young again.
