Oozing Back Into Life

mirror by the door
do tell

the tumor’s grown
the peacock fell

I kick the wire frame
across the floor

release the pus
and wait

there’s always more

where I see black
it’s peacock blue

shaped like a heart
not one, but two

I take a needle
pierce the swollen

my vanity lies
on the floor
feathers fallen

close the door

I need the light
to shine
where I don’t see

not black but blue
a heart, a tumor

there where
my lips ought to be

only I can cut out
all the pain

release the screams
and love myself again
