I’ve Been Away Too Long

Dharma Moon

What lights you up? Guru asks,
So I point to you,
Though I know you’re not
What he means.

Like you, I have no light
Of my own,
Yet I don’t want to be
The sun.

I prefer your gentle light,
Steady and calm.
You glow, and in you
I am illuminated,

Just as I am.
My fragile smile not lost,
My little life not diminished,
As I wait for dawn.

Is this my dharma then?
Being just as I am,
A reflection, for now
Letting others star.

My light for them, from them,
Until dawn, when I dare
Embrace the spark within,
And answer new.
